Key Highlights:

  • Leadership & Organisational Updates:
    • Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) now rebranded as the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
    • Tom Bassett (Partnership Transformation Manager) has left the council; Board thanked him for his contributions.
    • ASD Helping Hands won the bid to manage the Norfolk Autism Partnership and Learning Disability Partnership from 5 October 2022.
    • Data Controller responsibilities shifting from Norfolk County Council to ASD Helping Hands—Board members asked to consent to data transfer.
  • Autism Norfolk Forum & Housing Discussion:
    • Forum on Housing held in June with guest speakers from Shelter and Norfolk County Council.
    • Concerns raised about inappropriate housing, rising rent, and lack of autism-friendly accommodations.
    • Next forum to focus on Advocacy in September 2022.
  • Diagnostic Data & Waiting Times:
    • Presentation given on referral and assessment waiting times for children and adults.
    • COVID-19 has increased waiting times despite backlog-clearing efforts.
    • Challenges exist in data collection due to different reporting methods across services.
    • Board requested regular diagnostic data updates.
  • Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) Update:
    • New Position Statement on PDA developed with input from Family Voice and Diagnosis Working Group.
    • Need for PDA awareness training identified for GPs and healthcare professionals.
    • ICB to explore adding PDA training to its professional development programs.
  • Board Independence & Transition to ASD Helping Hands:
    • New leader being hired for Learning Disability Partnership.
    • Plans to secure a physical venue for meetings and expand social media presence.

Next Steps:

  • Schedule Autism Norfolk Forum on Advocacy.
  • Ensure smooth transition of data to ASD Helping Hands.
  • Continue efforts to reduce diagnostic waiting times and enhance data collection.
  • Develop PDA training resources for healthcare professionals.
