Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS)
The Neurodevelopmental Service sees children and young people where there are concerns that they might have neuro-developmental conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and an assessment is indicated. A diagnostic assessment is provided where clinically appropriate and beneficial for the child or family. The team is made up of Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Specialist Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Family Support Workers.
The Community Paediatricians are a separate service. As part of the wider assessment, the team complete different specialist assessments based on the needs your child is presenting with, this means the assessment process will be different for different children.
Home visits are provided by this service. Interpretation and translation services are available for users of this service and can be arranged by staff.
Patients Choice/Right to Choose (Children and Young People)
In many cases you have the legal right to choose where you have your NHS treatment. The NHS is offering more and more options to enable you to make choices that best suit your circumstances, giving you greater control of your care, and hopefully better results.
If a GP needs to refer you for a physical or mental health condition, in most cases you have the legal right to choose the hospital or service you’d like to go to.
This will include many private hospitals if they provide services to the NHS, and it does not cost the NHS any more than a referral to a standard NHS hospital.
