NAP Board Minutes – 3 June 2020

  • Leadership & Membership Updates:
    • Inspector Jo Walmsley (Norfolk Police) replacing Lucy King as a representative.
    • Amanda Dunn attended as Vice Co-chair (observer).
  • Governance & Working Group Structure Updates:
    • New Governance, Compliments & Complaints Working Group established to handle board queries and policy reviews.
    • Engagement, Workforce Development, and Diagnosis Working Groups to meet regularly via MS Teams.
    • Data and Education Working Groups to report into the Board as virtual groups.
    • SEND Transformation Programme to provide quarterly reports.
  • Autism Strategy & COVID-19 Survey:
    • Local Autism Strategy (“My Autism, Our Lives, Our Norfolk”) launched on 1 June 2020.
    • Launch supported by press release, newsletter, and COVID-19 autism impact survey.
    • Survey results to be analyzed in six weeks—data to inform service development.
    • East of England ADASS Network requested to use Norfolk’s survey model regionally.
  • NAPB Complaints Management Overhaul:
    • Concerns raised about complexity of handling complaints within the Board.
    • Decision made to appoint an Independent Reviewer to oversee complaints.
    • Statutory organizations asked to contribute funding for this role (feedback due by 17 June 2020).
    • Norfolk Police required additional clarification before committing to the process.
  • Other Key Announcements:
    • Engagement Working Group introduced a Wellbeing Check Survey to gather anonymous feedback after meetings.
    • Consistency in Board communication: “social/physical distancing” to be used instead of “social distancing”.

Next Steps:

  • Review and analyze COVID-19 autism survey results.
  • Finalize funding contributions for the Independent Reviewer role.
  • Implement new Governance, Complaints & Compliments Working Group.
  • Continue engagement efforts through the Autism Norfolk Forum.
